Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sourdough discard
  • 1 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 1/4 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 3 tablespoon honey
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 7 cup bread flour
  • 1 tablespoon salt

Instructions

1. 1. In a large bowl, combine the sourdough discard, warm water, yeast, and honey. Stir until well mixed.

2. 2. Add the coconut oil, bread flour, and salt to the sourdough mixture. Use your hands or a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook to knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes.

3. 3. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

4. 4. Punch down the dough to release any air bubbles, then divide it into your desired portions. Shape the dough into either loaves or baguettes, depending on your preference.

5. 5. Place the shaped loaves on a baking sheet, cover, and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.

6. 6. Preheat your oven to 425°F. If desired, brush the loaves with melted butter. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the loaves sound hollow when tapped.

7. 7. Allow the Sourdough Discard French Bread to cool completely before slicing and serving.
