Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar, for coating

Instructions

1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt.

3. Cream Butter & Sugar: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract, and mix until combined.

4. Combine: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms. Chill the dough for at least 1 hour.

5. Form Cookies: Roll the chilled dough into 1-inch balls. Roll each ball in powdered sugar to coat completely.

6. Bake: Place the coated balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the cookies are set but still soft in the center.

7. Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Adjust Spices: Feel free to adjust the amounts of ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg to suit your personal taste preferences.

Chill Dough Thoroughly: Make sure to chill the dough for at least 1 hour, or even up to 24 hours, for the best crinkle effect.

Avoid Overbaking: Be careful not to overbake the cookies, as they should still be soft in the center when removed from the oven.

Store Properly: Store the cooled Gingerbread Crinkle Cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. For longer storage, they can be frozen for up to 3 months.
