Delectable Hibachi Steak Bowls: Bringing the Flavor of the Grill to Your Kitchen

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pound top sirloin steak
  • 1 tablespoon mirin
  • 6 cloves garlic, finely minced or pressed
  • 2 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 2 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • 4 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 3 medium carrots, thinly cut on a bias
  • 2 medium zucchinis, sliced in half lengthwise & then cut into half moons
  • 4 ounce sliced mushrooms (baby bella)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon teriyaki sauce

Instructions

1. Marinate Steak: In a bowl, combine the steak chunks with mirin, garlic, ginger paste, 1 teaspoon sesame oil, white pepper, and salt. Set aside for 10–15 minutes to let the flavors meld.

2. Cook Vegetables: Heat 2 tablespoon sesame oil and 2 tablespoon butter in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the carrots and zucchini, and sauté for 2–3 minutes. Then, add the mushrooms and garlic powder, cooking for another 2–3 minutes. Remove the vegetables and set them aside.

3. Cook Steak: In the same skillet, melt the remaining 2 tablespoon of butter. Add the marinated steak in a single layer and sear it until it reaches your desired doneness, about 3–5 minutes depending on the chunk size.

4. Combine & Sauce: Add the cooked vegetables back to the skillet. Drizzle the teriyaki or Japanese BBQ sauce over the steak and veggies, and toss everything together for 1–2 minutes until heated through.

5. Serve: Spoon the fried rice into bowls, then top with the hibachi steak and vegetable mixture. Serve with the Yum Yum Sauce on the side for dipping and extra flavor.

Notes

The key to achieving that authentic Hibachi Steak Bowl experience lies in the cooking techniques. Searing the steak over high heat is crucial for developing a delightful caramelized crust and locking in the juices. The quick-cooking method also helps to retain the vegetables’ crisp-tender texture, preventing them from becoming soggy.
