Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pound bone-in turkey breast
  • 1 large onion, sliced thick
  • 4 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1/2 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped
  • 1/2 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, freshly minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 23 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cup drippings from slow cooker, add broth if needed
  • 1/4 cup butter for gravy
  • 1/4 cup flour for gravy

Instructions

1. Start by patting the turkey breast dry with paper towels and placing the sliced onions at the bottom of the slow cooker. Nestle the turkey on top of the onions.

2. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, orange zest, fresh sage, thyme, minced garlic, pepper, rosemary, oregano, and salt. Rub this mixture all over the surface of the turkey.

3. Cover the slow cooker and cook the turkey breast on low for 6-7 hours, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.

4. Once the turkey is cooked through, remove it from the slow cooker and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing.

5. While the turkey is resting, prepare the gravy. Pour the drippings from the slow cooker into a saucepan, and if needed, add a bit of broth. Melt the butter in the pan, then whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually add the drippings, stirring constantly until thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

6. Slice the turkey breast and serve it hot, drizzled with the gravy.

Notes

For juiciness, use a meat thermometer to monitor internal temperature. Avoid opening the slow cooker lid too often to retain heat. Consider brining the turkey breast before cooking for added flavor.
