Ingredients

Scale
  • 3/4 cup salted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup dutch processed cocoa
  • 1/2 tablespoon corn starch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 6 tablespoon salted butter, softened
  • 2 ounce cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup dutch processed cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoon salted butter, softened
  • 4 ounce cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint bakery emulsion or peppermint extract
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, corn syrup, vanilla, and milk until well combined.

3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa, corn starch, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

4. Cover the dough and chill it in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.

5. Once chilled, roll the dough into balls and coat them evenly in the powdered sugar. Place the coated dough balls onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them apart.

6. Bake the cookies for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are set and the centers are still slightly soft. Allow the cookies to cool completely on the baking sheets before frosting.

7. While the cookies are cooling, you can prepare the decadent Fudge Frosting. In a medium bowl, beat the softened butter and cream cheese until smooth. Add the powdered sugar, cocoa, and vanilla, mixing until well combined. If the frosting is too thick, thin it with a bit of milk to reach your desired consistency.

8. For the Peppermint Cream Cheese Frosting, beat the softened butter and cream cheese in a separate bowl until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar, vanilla, peppermint extract, and a pinch of salt, mixing until well incorporated. If needed, thin the frosting with a splash of milk to achieve the right consistency. Feel free to add a few drops of pink food coloring for a festive touch.

9. Once the cookies have cooled, it’s time to frost and decorate them. You can choose to top the cookies with either the Fudge Frosting or the Peppermint Cream Cheese Frosting, depending on your personal preference. For a truly stunning presentation, consider swirling both frostings together on each cookie. Finish off your creations by sprinkling crushed peppermint candies on top.

Notes

Chill the dough thoroughly before baking to achieve the signature crinkle effect.

Be sure not to overbake the cookies, as you want them to retain their soft, fudgy centers.

Store the baked cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or freeze them for up to 3 months.
