Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

2. Make Chocolate Dough: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla, then gradually mix in the dry ingredients until the dough is fully combined.

3. Make Peanut Butter Dough: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, cream together the butter, peanut butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla, then gradually mix in the dry ingredients until the dough is fully combined.

4. Form Cookies: Take equal portions of the chocolate and peanut butter dough, roll them into balls, and gently press them together or twist them to create a swirl effect.

5. Bake: Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until the edges are set.

6. Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Use Room Temperature Ingredients: Allowing your butter and eggs to come to room temperature before mixing will result in a smoother, more cohesive dough that’s easier to work with.

Chill the Dough: Chilling the dough for at least 30 minutes (or up to 24 hours) before baking will help the cookies hold their shape and achieve a firmer, more defined swirl.

Adjust Baking Time: Keep an eye on the cookies during baking and adjust the time as needed. Baking for 10-12 minutes will result in a soft, chewy cookie, while a slightly longer bake time of 12-14 minutes will yield a crunchier texture.

Get Creative with the Swirl: If you want to change up the appearance, try using a fork or a toothpick to create different swirl patterns in the dough before baking.
