Canadian Cheese Soup 5 Steps Ultimate Delicious

Canadian Cheese Soup is a creamy, indulgent soup made with a blend of cheeses and vegetables, perfect for chilly winter days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cup chicken broth
  • 4 medium potatoes, cubed
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 cup carrots, sliced
  • 1/2 cup onions, diced
  • 1 leek, sliced
  • 2 teaspoon sea salt or kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 cup cooked cubed ham
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cup whole milk
  • 1 pound sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

Instructions

1. 1. In a large Dutch oven or stock pot, combine the chicken broth, potatoes, celery, carrots, onions, leek, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat and simmer until vegetables are tender, about 15–20 minutes.

2. 2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour to form a roux and cook for 1–2 minutes. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth and thickened, about 5–7 minutes.

3. 3. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the shredded cheese until fully melted and smooth.

4. 4. Slowly pour the cheese sauce into the pot with the cooked vegetables and ham, gently stirring to combine. Heat through over low heat, being careful not to let the soup boil.

5. 5. Ladle the soup into bowls and enjoy.

Notes

Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese or vegetables. You can also make it vegetarian by omitting the ham and using vegetable broth.
